The Cal South Soccer State Cup starting at the end of March is our boys’ next step up and we are asking for your help to get there.
Where we come from:
Most of the boys have been playing in the Santa Barbara Revolution Youth Soccer League since they were nine years old.
Half our players were then recruited – starting in the 2017-18 season – to play in the US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) league, which feeds into the US Soccer Youth National team program.
After playing against – and beating – some of the best teams and players in the country in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, the team added a number of new players, and formed the first Santa Barbara Revolution Select club team in the Fall of 2019.
In their first season as Santa Barbara Revolution Select, the boys went 17-1-1, outscoring opponents 104 goals to 12, winning the Cabrillo Cup, and winning promotion in the Coast Soccer League (CSL) for the Fall 2020 season.
Where we’re going:
Almost all our players also play at the local Santa Barbara, Goleta and Carpinteria high schools – including nationally ranked #10 Santa Barbara High and regionally ranked Dos Pueblos High and San Marcos High – and most have just finished their first high school seasons.
Our long term goals are three steps:
1) Ensure the boys are competing at a high enough level that they will attract interest from college soccer programs and scouts
2) Ensure all the boys are academically eligible to continue to compete with their high school soccer programs through graduation
3) Ensure all the boys are academically college ready, and playing at a high enough level that they have opportunity for a college scholarship
More than 200,000 male high school age soccer players graduate every year, and less than 1% of those boys go on to play soccer in college.
Is it difficult? Yes.
Is it possible? Yes!
Our boys have competed at the very highest level against the very best of their peers, and shown soccer-wise that they have the talent.
But they need your help.
How you can help:
Our next step is going to the CalSouth State Cup at the end of March. Doing well there will enable the team to make the case for accelerated promotion to an even higher level of competition in Fall 2020.
More success against better competition will lead to an increased awareness about our boys in the college soccer scouting community, and also provide the boys with clear goals to drive their academic performance.
With the CalSouth State Cup, we’re taking every cost saving measure (five to a room, shared rides, volunteer coaches) possible.
We are also asking each of our team families to contribute $50 per player to help get our boys started with practice as soon as the high school season is over on February 6th.
But we need your help. Most of the initial USSDA players qualified for need-based scholarships from US Soccer two years in a row, and almost all our players would be the first in their family to graduate from a four year university.
We need to raise $4,500 by Wednesday, March 20th.
Your support will help us to fund:
1) Practice field rentals for practice prior to the State Cup
2) Tournament and referee fees thru the initial round of games
3) Travel to and from the State Cup thru the initial round of games (we’re expecting to travel more than 300 miles each weekend) for our 16 player team
Please help us take our next step. It takes the whole community and it’s for the kids!
Thank you!
